OSMA

OSMA-SGE is an acronym for Open Source Multiplayer Adventure – Serious Game Engine.
The OSMA-SGE project is a research project sponsored by the IWT-Flanders, Belgium.

This project aims to reduce the cost barrier for the development of serious games for game-based learning.

Within the three pillars of the game development i.e. game technology, game art and game design we look for generic and extensible game components and game concepts.

The OSMA Serious game engine is build up from existing open source technology components. Central in the project is the selection, integration and documentation of these components. This platform is extended with game environments, objects and characters that can be used in different game contexts and for different audiences. Therefore a universal style manual is developed that is the basis of the various game assets.

The OSMA platform is tested and finetuned in several showcases. Based on these showcases guidelines and best-practices are formulated to allow users to use and expand the OSMA platform.

Besides a technology platform OSMA also comes with a community platform to exchange information and knowledge about serious games for games-based learning.
